The Mitsu Hinged Knee Cap is a strapped knee brace with a metal side hinge. The hinge is the reason to choose it over a compression sleeve: it allows the knee to bend and straighten normally while resisting sideways movement at the joint.
Two buckle-and-hook straps, one above and one below the knee, let the brace be tensioned separately at the thigh and the calf. That is how a hinged brace is kept from migrating down the leg during walking, which is the usual complaint with knee supports that rely on compression alone.
